Swordfish Theatre

Sitting. Singular in the presence of a film. The image of a lonely soul on a nameless night. Runway lights. Heavy footsteps generating static and covering ground. All moving toward a visual history of ideal nostalgia. A kind of pressurized and sound proof one manned capsule. Similar to a submarine… except outfitted with surround sound and sugar coated polyester.

The variables of film circulate like the flow of life. Humans rushing back and forth, Ant colonies that never sleep, the intricate mechanics of a lions muscular system in the heat of the hunt.

The truth is, we all see ourselves as that singularity. That lonely soul on a nameless night. Viewing our lives through a riveted set of circular windows, portholes installed by chaos or control… The ol olfactory senseless radar, propelling us… in our atomic fission submersibles.

So… it is safe to say I think, that film-making is mans grasp between two scarless cupped hands. Never imprisoning,… similar to trapping a firefly in a mason jar only setting it free. It’s the act… the attempt in bringing the dreamscape into control if only for one liminal second. Like reeling in a swordfish for instance.

In the energy state of life the swordfish emits a vibrant spectrum of blue, paying self-less homage to the molecules that so graciously support it. And only a select few know to respect this balance. For once the greed of ownership, arrogant office walls and nervous circular teeth cease their chattering. The blue begins to fade. Transforming to grey flesh, moving into the static.

Film found in the brightest light, becomes transcendent. And the few that know it, know well enough.
